How to Audit Your Salesforce Data Before Deploying Any AI Tool
You have budget approval for an AI tool. Before you connect it to your Salesforce org, spend two days running this audit. It will save you from the most common AI deployment failure: building on unreliable data.
Audit area 1: Field inventory and population
Export the complete field list for Account, Contact, Opportunity, and Lead. For each custom field, check: population rate, last modified date, and whether it appears on any page layout, report, or flow. Fields below 5% population with no dependencies are candidates for removal before AI deployment.
Audit area 2: Picklist distributions
For every picklist field that feeds the AI model, pull a value distribution report. Flag picklists where "Other" exceeds 10%, where values overlap semantically, or where zombie values add clutter.
Audit area 3: Duplicate rates
Run duplicate detection on Account and Contact. If your rate exceeds 5%, clean before AI deployment.
Audit area 4: Pipeline hygiene
Check: percentage of open opportunities with past close dates, deals stagnant for more than 2x your average cycle, and deals with no activity in 30+ days.
Audit area 5: Integration sync health
Verify syncs are current and complete. Check the last successful sync time, compare record counts between systems, and spot-check records for consistency.
After the audit
Score each area using the CRM Data Quality Scorecard. If any area scores below 3, remediate before connecting the AI tool. The two-day audit protects the much larger investment in AI tooling.
